Prostate Cancer and PSA Testing
Prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting men, yet there is currently no single definitive test for its detection. Among the available diagnostic tools, the prostate-specific antigen (PSA) blood test plays a key role in identifying potential early signs of the disease.
The UK does not offer a national screening programme for prostate cancer but a healthy man, over 50 can ask for the test from their GP, free of charge. We found the experience of patients requesting this test varied, so we decided to research how many men were successful in their request for a PSA test from their GP in Worcestershire.
Below you will find a report and a position statement detailing our work and the outcomes.
