Worcester News Article – 14th June

Next Monday 21st June we will be holding an online Summer Conference. Tina Russell, interim Chief Executive Officer of Worcestershire Children First and Director of Children’s Services will be talking about the response to Covid-19 for children and young people in Worcestershire. Worcestershire Children First is the company responsible for delivering children’s services across the county, including children’s social care, education, early help and fostering. There will be an opportunity for members of the public to ask questions, which can be submitted to us by email in advance or asked during the conference.

We will be presenting our Annual Report and our refreshed Business Objectives, outlining our plans for future areas of work. There will also be a Question and Answer session with our Board of Directors. There is no need to book a place in advance – just visit our website for further information and the link to join via Zoom on the day.

Last week was Carer’s Week – with a focus on making carers visible and valued. Carers have played a greater role than ever before in supporting people with their care needs throughout the pandemic and we will continue to ensure we gather their feedback about local health and care services and experiences as carers. Worcestershire County Council is currently developing a new all age Carers Strategy for Worcestershire. We will be encouraging as many carers as possible to share their views to help shape the strategy.

June is also Pride Month, celebrating the achievements and raising awareness of issues faced by the LGBT+ community. Two of our Engagement Officers have been attending a training course to develop our understanding of the issues experienced by people who are transgender and bisexual, in addition to wider mental health issues experienced by the LGBT+ community and some useful information around data capture and collection. This is an issue we have been raising locally with the NHS and County Council. We are pleased that new online Shared Care Records being developed for Herefordshire and Worcestershire will include a record of an individual’s preferred gender identity.
