Worcester News Article – 30th October
It has been a busy period for the Healthwatch Team, with us attending a range of meetings covering County Health and Care matters on behalf of service users, carers and patients. At the Worcestershire Health and Well Being Board and Health Scrutiny Committee we received updates on the Acute Hospital and its plans for services over the forth coming winter period and update reports from both Children’s and Adults Safeguarding Boards. We raised a number of concerns that emerged from the reports and will continue to monitor the promises and commitments made to improve both the safety and quality of services in Worcestershire.
We also received updates on current Cancer Services and future provision plans and information on Maternity services and annual public health trends. Details of all these meetings can be found in the public domain or via links on the Healthwatch Worcestershire website.
Recently I attended the Young Solutions Worcestershire AGM entitled “Are Young People Surviving or Thriving” which was an inspiring event. It was hosted and presented by young people and it was good to hear about the tremendous work being undertaken to help and support young people across the county. The theme of the evening was Mental Health and its hidden impact on young people which was a timely reminder of the challenges we face as a community.
The new Frailty Unit has recently opened at the Alexandra Hospital and we will be monitoring progress of the effectiveness of this initiative over the coming months. There are a number of new engagement opportunities to discuss improve services for patients in the following areas; Ophthalmology, Urology, Musculoskeletal, Gastrointestinal, and Gynaecology. If you are interested in being involved please contact email@example.com.
On Friday 3rd November we will be holding our next Public Board Meeting at Wychavon Civic Centre at 10am . The Chief Executive of Healthwatch England will be giving a presentation and taking questions from the public.
