Worcester News Article – 22nd October
On Friday 12th October we held our Public Board Meeting in Pershore. During this meeting we discussed our work on Stroke Services. We had previously written to the Accountable Officer of the three Worcestershire Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) asking for assurance on the Quality and Safety of the current Stroke Services. Unfortunately, this assurance was not provided, though we have now held meetings with the CCG and have been invited to attend Worcester Stroke Group. Further to this we will be writing to the Board of Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust for an explanation as to why recommendations from the Stroke Group have not been implemented.
Last week I attended a Best Practice Conference at the NEC with hundreds of GPs and Practice Nurses sharing new innovations in care and medical services. There were many practical and open discussions about what works well and what doesn’t. As one of the few delegates representing patients and carers I was pleased to see the NHS professional’s perspective that resources and arrangements for primary care in our local surgeries needs more resources and even greater joint working.
The Healthwatch team have been out and about talking to parents and carers of children under five about oral health. We are asking questions to find out what information parents are given about how to look after their babies or child’s teeth. We are also finding out what information or support about caring for babies or children’s teeth people would find useful.
We attended the launch of the Maternity Services Hub at The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch. The hub means that women attending an antenatal appointment receive a more joined up service in one area of the hospital. Previously women had to been seen in the main Outpatients Department. The Maternity Team have received positive feedback from women about the changes made.
