Why this priority?
Feedback from young people and parents through our engagement and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) Survey raised concerns about the diagnosis process and support available for children with Autism Spectrum Conditions.
We also received feedback from individuals and members of our Reference and Engagement Group about the long waiting times for adult diagnosis and lack of awareness of Autism Spectrum Conditions amongst services.
Carrying out work around Autism Spectrum Conditions was voted as highest priority by patients, service users, carers and the public at our Annual Conference in June 2016.
What are we doing?
We are talking to people with Autism Spectrum Conditions and their carers about – going to the Doctors, going to the Hospital, information, support and getting a diagnosis. We are currently running surveys and visiting groups across Worcestershire to speak to people about their experiences.
Along side this we are asking GP Practices, the Acute Hospitals and the Worcestershire Health and Care Trust about awareness and adjustments made by their services for people with an Autism Spectrum Condition.
We have also been working with parents to enable them to give feedback to Commissioners as part of the current redesign of the Umbrella (Neurodevelopmental) Pathway.
